Katie wins Player of the Year Award!

Pictured above is Year 9 student Katie Boyle with the plaque and medal she received for being selected as Player of the Year for the Netball Northern Ireland (NNI) Southern Area Regional Development Squad.

Katie will now go on to represent NNI in the Interboard tour with takes place on the 11th May in Antrim Forum.

Last week six Year 9 pupils from St Paul’s were selected to represent the southern area in the upcoming Netball Northern Ireland U13 Regional Development Academy Tournament, which is being held in Antrim Forum on Saturday 11th May.

These girls will join a squad of 18 other girls from schools in the southern area, all of who have been training on a Monday evening in Cookstown Leisure Centre in preparation for this tournament.

Colleen, Year 12 pupil at St Paul’s, has been selected on to the final Netball Northern Ireland Under 17 International squad to play in the European championships in Malta next month.

Northern Ireland Netball success for Aoibheann

Year 10 pupil Aoibheann Jones was recently selected to represent the Southern Area Schools Netball Nothern Ireland (NNI) Under 15 Development Squad.

Aoibheann will train with girls from other Southern Area Schools in Cookstown Leisure Centre once a month under NNI coach Nicola Cheevers.

This is all in preparation for an inter board Under 15 Netball tournament that will take place in May 2013.

U19 Netball Success for St Paul’s

Students Andrea Shannon (left) and Claudine Loughran (right) who were successful at the NNI Southern Area U19 Schools Netball trials.

Year 14 students, Andrea Shannon and Claudine Loughran attended the NNI Southern Area U19 Schools Netball trials hosted by their own school St Paul’s High School Bessbrook.  Both were successful and will now train with a squad of 20 girls from schools throughout the southern area in preparation for the inter board Podium4Sport netball tournament on 10th November 2012 in Lisburn Racquet Club.

The squad will be trained by Miss Maeve Murray and Miss Kevina McGreevy of St Mary’s High School Newry.

Year 12 students Colleen McVeigh and Dearbhla Wright were selected onto the Northern Ireland Under 17 Netball squad this weekend.

The girls will train as part of a squad of 20 in Antrim Forum in preparation for the European Championships in early 2013.

 Year 9 Newry and Mourne Netball Champions 2012 

St Paul’s High School Year 9 Netball team has secured the Newry and Mourne Schools’ Netball title with a win over the Sacred Heart Grammar School.

The team played very well in both attack and defence to emerge overall winners, with a score of 12-6.

Three members of this team are also members of the U13 RDA Southern Area Netball Development squad who will play in an inter Board Tournament at the Valley Leisure Centre Belfast.
