Department Aims:

The learning support department is an intrinsic component in the provisional of learning for students with special educational needs. 

Our aims are:

  • To provide a positive and supportive learning environment.
  • To motivate all pupils to work to their full potential, with the view of developing a level of independence.
  • To foster area of special interest to engage learners.
  • To encourage the social and emotional development of our learners.

This holistic approach to the education intends to provide opportunities for each learner to achieve full potential in a caring, and supportive environment.

Curriculum- KS3:

Our KS3 curriculum is designed to mirror the curriculum which is all students in St. Paul’s experience, but also is designed to allow for a flexible approach to learning which caters for all abilities in each teaching groups. 

The curriculum is a three-year programme, in which our students are taught core subjects within the learning support department by a member of our staff, while a range of subjects are delivered by subject specialists. 

 

Subjects taught within the department:

  • English
  • Mathematics
  • Learning for Life and Work
  • Environment and Society
  • Religion

 

Subjects taught by subject specialists outside of the department:

  • Art
  • Drama
  • Home Economics
  • Music
  • P.E.
  • Science
  • Technology

In addition, we provide small group withdrawal for our learners.  This is usually arranged based on priority, where students are identified to benefit from additional support in numeracy and literacy.  As a department, we endeavour to support all our students to overcome any barriers to learning with the most appropriate support for each learners

Curriculum- KS4:

Most of our learners will follow the Entry Level Programme, which is run by CCEA.  This programme is organised in to modules, which students can work within their own ability.  Here is the link to the CCEA web-site:
