The Admission Policy will be administered by the Principal. Applications for admission to St Paul’s High School will be divided into two categories – A and B.
All applications will be considered but applications to category A will be given preference over applications belonging to category B. If the school is oversubscribed decisions on admission will be made according to the following criteria applied in order of priority set down 1 – 6 in category A and 1 – 2 in category B
Category A
1. Applications from pupils who normally reside in the traditional catchment area of the school namely:
(a) Parish of Lower Killeavy.
(b) Parish of Loughgilly.
(c) Parish of Dromintee.
(d) Parish of Upper Killeavy provided they attend Cloughoge Primary School or Killean Primary School or St Joseph’s Primary School, Meigh.
(e) Newtownhamilton part of Lower Creggan Parish that traditionally contributes to St Paul’s High School.
(f) Cladybeg part of Ballymacnab Parish, that traditionally contributes to St Malachy’s Primary School, Ballymoyer, Co. Armagh.
The above named parishes are not listed in any order of priority.
2. Applications from pupils whose parent/guardian is a permanent employee of the school.
3. Applications from pupils who normally reside in the part of the parish of Newry that lies west of the railway line and who attend St Peter’s Primary School in Lower Killeavy parish or St Malachy’s Primary School in Upper Killeavy parish.
4. Applications from
(a) Pupils who normally reside within 200 metres east of the Chancellor’s Road and who attend St Peter’s Primary School in Lower Killeavy parish or St Malachy’s Primary School in Upper Killeavy parish.Or
(b) Pupils who normally reside west of the Chancellor’s Road and who attend St Peter’s Primary School in Lower Killeavy parish or St Malachy’s Primary School in Upper Killeavy parish.
5. Pupils whose brothers, sister, half brother or half sister is enrolled at the school under the transfer procedure.5.
6. Applications from pupils who reside in the parish of Upper Killeavy provided they attend St Malachy’s Primary School in Upper Killeavy parish.
Category B
1. Applications from pupils whose parent/guardian is a past pupil of St Paul’s High School.
2. All other applicants.Note 1If applications from within any particular group in category A or B cause the admissions quota to be exceeded then applicants who reside nearest St Paul’s High School will be selected up to the admissions quota.Transfer PolicyThis policy will be administered by the Principal.St Paul’s High School will admit pupils transferring from other Secondary or Grammar Schools under the following conditions.
(a) That the acceptance of the pupil does not cause the school to exceed its enrolment quota.
(b) That the school can make suitable provision for the pupil without increased resources.
(c) That the admittance of the pupil does not prejudice the education of other pupils in the school.
