2 out of 2 for St Paul’s in MacRory

Our Under 18 footballers continued their great start to the Danske Bank MacRory Cup with another impressive win over local rivals St Colman’s College, Newry.

This was the first time the two sides had met at Ulster Colleges level and with St Colman’s success at MacRory level over the past number of years, it is fair to say that we went into the game as underdogs.

Both teams came to an agreement that a bucket collection would take place at the game, with adults being charged £3 and children £1. This was very successful and all proceeds were donated to charity.

St Paul’s started the brighter of the teams as Caolan McCullough scored a goal within the first five minutes of the game.

Both sides kicked points but St Paul’s started to get on top as the game went on and the sheer class and determination had the team leading 2-3 to 0-4 at half time.

The second half continue the way of the previous thirty minutes, with the St Paul’s boys kicking six unanswered points.

Great pressure and tackling in defence restricted St Colman’s to two scores in the second half and these came in the last ten minutes.

Final Score: St Paul’s High School, 2-09      St Colman’s College,  1-05

The next game will be against an experienced Omagh CBS team. No venue or date is confirmed as of yet. Keep an eye on our Facebook and Twitter page for information regarding the next match and also to keep track of the live updates.

Great to see St Paul’s in the MacRory. Well done to all the panel and to the team mentors especially John Rafferty and Martin O’Rourke. The boys are lucky to have such vision on the line. Keep the engine running!
