Homecoming for Ladies’ Ulster Champions!

Pictured is the Under 16 Ladies’ team, after being welcomed back to the school by the staff and students at St Paul’s.

Students and staff at St Paul’s High School, Bessbrook, lined the school’s front avenue to welcome home the victorious Under 16 Ladies team who won the Kukri PPS U16A Final by defeating Loreto Grammar, Omagh, in a well-matched final held in Clones on Friday 22 February.

Principal of St Paul’s, Mr Oliver Mooney, welcomed back the team and accepted the cup from joint-captains Shauna Finnegan and Anna Carr.  The 1500-strong student population cheered as the team lined out on a specially erected podium at the front of the school, and heard Mr Mooney pay tribute to the team’s dedication and ‘never say die’ spirit which characterised their victory.

This was the first year the girls had entered the ‘A’ competition and they will now go on to represent Ulster in an All-Ireland Semi-Final that is set to take place in the coming weeks.

Once we find out the date, time and venue for the All-Ireland Semi-Final, we will post this on our school Facebook and Twitter pages.

Well done girls! I was so proud of you on Friday in Clones. You got off to the toughest start possible but never gave in. What a come back and then you stuck it out for a well deserved victory.
Here’s hoping that March is an even better month for all of you as you head south for the semi final.

Just home from the semi final against Loreto Convent, Fermoy. What a smashing performance, nothing short of amazing. Final Score 2gls 11pts to 3gls 7pts, a one point win for an outstanding St Paul’s team!
Each player did her part, a real team performance.
Well done to you all and your parents and mentors who made the long journey south.
Thank you for another enjoyable day.
