Night of celebration for All Ireland Senior Football Champions

All Ireland Champions 2012

All Ireland Champions 1980

On 27th June, St. Paul’s Bessbrook will officially acknowledge the magnificent success of its under 18 team in winning the All Ireland with a presentation dinner in the Carrickdale Hotel.

They have also invited, as guests of honour, the last St. Paul’s team to win the All Ireland in 1980 along with their manager Joe McNulty and his backroom team.

Speaking at the launch of the event, Mr. Mooney, school principal, remarked how proud the entire community was of the achievements of both teams and how fitting it would be that they are both honoured on the same night.  Many of the 1980 team are now parents of pupils who attend the school and have kept their commitment to the school alive through the 32 years that have followed their historic victory.

St. Paul’s won the All Ireland again this year beating Ardscoil Rís in what was one of the most complete displays of football seen for a long time in Breifne, which was equalled by Crossmaglen on the day when they won the Andy Merrigan Cup, capping what was an outstanding day for south Armagh GAA.

This dinner promises to be an evening for all to celebrate the superb achievements of two outstanding teams and to give the public an opportunity to share in the celebration.

Tickets are at a premium and many have been snapped up already, but some are available from the school for this unique event at a price of £25.
