St Paul’s confirmed their participation in the MacCormack Cup final at the end of the month with a three points win over St Macartan’s in their final Danske Bank MacRory Cup group game in Culloville yesterday.

The first half was a very tight encounter as the Monaghan side were very accurate when shooting from distance with Feargal McMahon kicking six of their first eight half points.

However Caolan McCullough grabbed two goals in the first half to have St Paul’s leading at half time.

Half time: St Paul’s Bessbrook 2-4 St Macartan’s Monaghan 0-8

In the second half St Paul’s took control during a ten minute spell as points from Eoghan Burns, Connaire Mackin and Cormac Toner put St Paul’s a seven points clear.

Monaghan got back into the game within five minutes with a penalty on the 53rd minute and then a sloppy goal 2minutes later but St Paul’s responded by kicking two unanswered points from Connaire Mackin and Caolan McCullough to finish the game and collect the vital two points.

Final Score: St Paul’s Bessbrook 2-14 St Macartan’s Monaghan 2-11

St Paul’s scorers: Caolan McCullagh 2-1, Eoghan Burns 0-4, 0-3 frees, Cormac Toner 0-3, Conor Mackin 0-2, Aaron McKay 0-2, Conor Nugent 0-1.
