Year 12 History students pictured with Mr Dominic Bradley MLA

Recently History students in Year 8 visited the Northern Ireland Assembly at Stormont to investigate the workings of our regional government.

The visit was sponsored by Dominic Bradley MLA, who welcomed us at the door.

In the Assembly chamber itself Mr Bradley outlined the role played by the MLAs, and how legislation is arrived at.

In particular we found out about the Autism Bill which Mr Bradley helped pass.

Students received a guided tour of the building including the old Senate chamber, which is now used for committee meeting. We were let in on the mystery of two red dispatch boxes whose keys are missing.

The visit was arranged by Mr Martin McTaggart who is a past pupil of St Paul’s and who had studied History for A level. He now works for the Research & Statistics section of OFMDFM.

Later the students had the opportunity to feel urbane and have lunch in the trendy Victoria Square.
