HSC students visit Avila Nursing Home

On Wednesday 17th April, post 16 Health & Social Care students from Ms Fearon’s class visited Avila Nursing Home as part of their module on Communication in Care Settings. The purpose of the visit was to allow the students to interact with an older client group and demonstrate the essential skills of communication; to include appropriate use of pace, tone, eye contact and body language.

Each student actively engaged with the older residents in Avila, asking them questions and having general conversations. The residents were also entertained with some Traditional Irish Dancing by Aoife Malone and Ciara Murphy from the Rooney School of Dance.

This was a very enjoyable afternoon for all involved and the students are very grateful to Ms Lucy Holt for giving them permission to visit.

See below to watch Aoife and Ciara entertain the residents with some Traditional Irish Dancing.

lovely to see all the students interacting so well with the residents. Everyone looked to be enjoying your visit and I am sure the residents had a story or two to tell. It is fascinating to listen to older people, they can bestow so much knowledge if you take the time to listen. Well done girls.
