St Paul’s Spinathon raises £6250!

On Tuesday 31st March 2015 at 12 noon an all-inclusive marathon of fund raising took place in the student foyer of St Paul’s High School.

Mr Bill Geoghegan and his team of spinners organised and achieved a magnificent fund raising activity for four worthy charities: Marie Curie, Southern Area Hospice, Northern Ireland Children’s Hospice and MacMillan Cancer Support.

This inaugural spinathon was launched by Aaron Burns (Linfield FC), Patsy Skelton (World Champion Piper), Simon Best (Irish Rugby Team), Mickey Brady (Local MP) and Dáire Hughes (Past Mayor of Newry). Students, staff and the wider community of South Armagh took part during the day and throughout the night until 12 noon of Wednesday 1st April.

This exciting and tremendous spinathon was organised so each and every student in St Paul’s had an opportunity to take part. Many students and staff (both past and present), parents, individuals, local companies and clubs took part throughout the duration of the event by actively participating offering donations or providing sponsorship.

This was such a great success that St Paul’s are hoping to make it an annual event.
